G&G Responds to Greener Market Demands

Some say price is the most important factor when buyers choose suppliers and that environmental concerns are much less important. Recent research suggests that this view may be changing.

According to Quocirca's “Sustainability Market Trends Study 2023,” 70% of decision-makers prefer suppliers that help them to reduce their environmental impact, and a similar percentage values a range of sustainable products and services from their suppliers.

Green Achievements

G&G's journey began as a supplier of green solutions when the company was established in 2000—24 years ago. It commenced as a remanufacturer of ink cartridges and continues to remanufacture millions of cartridges annually. G&G continues to demonstrate its solid commitment to the environment and sustainable products in other ways, including its energy sources and packaging.

Despite the growing demand for new-built products, G&G remains committed to remanufacturing. In 2022, the remanufacturing of 26 million printer cartridges saved the need for 68 million new parts.

End-users in Europe and China are encouraged to return their used ink cartridges to G&G for recycling using a free mail-back envelope. G&G’s cartridge recycling program gives printer cartridges a second life.

1. Smart Remanufacturing Lines

G&G uses custom-made, automated production lines to remanufacture its cartridges. Compared to traditional methods, this boosts efficiency by 20% and saves up to 65% of water. These smart remanufacturing lines consistently provide reliable, high-quality remanufactured cartridges.

2. Clean and Green Energy

Since 2018, G&G has employed 12,000 square meters of photovoltaic cells on the roofs of its factories. "When the weather is good, up to 300,000 kW of photovoltaic power can be generated each month," said Cao Shunkai, Electrical Engineer at G&G. That's the same as planting 1.2 million trees. G&G captures the sun's clean energy and uses it to manufacture printer cartridges on its automated production lines.

3. Sustainable Water Treatment

The waste ink cleaned from used cartridges with most cartridge remanufacturers is washed down the drain and ends up in our rivers, lakes, and oceans. This pollutes the water we depend upon.

To resolve this problem, G&G invested US$1.25 million in a 1,500-square-meter sewage treatment station. "Over 180,000 tons of polluted water is processed yearly, mostly from the ink captured from cleaning used OEM cartridges before they are remanufactured," said Zhang Shunjiang, Water Analyst at G&G.

G&G's water treatment engineers run regular after-treatment tests every 4 hours to ensure the water is safe to discharge and reuse. After the treatment, "the water is so clean that it can be reused to water the flowers and lawns of the industry park," said Zhang.

4. Compliances & Certifications

To give customers peace of mind, G&G has met the rigorous requirements of various certifications and statutory authorities to ensure its products comply with environmental and quality standards. From the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) to the REACH Regulation, our products are safe and meet stringent ISO and international standards.
